d!d!d! 3rd Bday Cedric Maison [hypercolour]

In the words of d!d!d!

d!d!d! is turning three, so we’re throwing a very special Birthday party to celebrate everything House|Techno|Bass related we’ve put on since our inception three short years ago. We’ve come a long way since those heady days back in 2009 and this party will be as much a celebration of the beautiful music that has transcended the airwaves of our fair city, as an opportunity to thank you all for the support you’ve given us over the passed three years. Expect special Birthday décor, pumping house music, immersive visual experience provided by XYZ:Visual Architects, and the usual unique Maggies party vibe.

Birthday party soundtrack provided by very special guests:

CEDRIC MAISON [Hypercolour/Sneaker Social Club]

CEDRIC MAISON
Aka Jamie Russell is the co-owner of acclaimed UK label Hypercolour, a label responsible for pushing some of the most relevant and delectable sounds of the day. Boasting such luminaries on his books as Glimpse, Mark Henning, Tom Demac and Maya Jane Coles, whose ‘Don’t Put Me In Your Box’ EP, the label’s 22nd release continues to firmly cement Hypercolour’s place at the forefront of the UK Deep House scene. Hypercolour’s biggest selling point has been the avoidance of trends and themes, resulting in true freedom for the artists and something continually different for record buyers, djs and clubbers alike. This near belligerent attitude about providing something different is more than apparent in the co-founders’ DJ sets, and Cedric’s hands on involvement with sister label Glass Table and the more bass oriented Sneaker Social Club, coupled with his vast experience playing alongside the likes of international superstars such as Steve Lawler, Guillaume and the Coutu Dumonts and D’Julz, in clubs from Space in Ibiza, to Le Batofar in Paris, back round to London’s Fabric ensures that his sets are always far from monotonous as he juggles effortlessly between all things House|Techno|Bass, just how we like it! Needless to say, we’re extremely excited to welcome Cedric down to Maggies, who’ll be playing a special 2hour set for our 3rd birthday celebrations! RAVE!

THE MAGNET
Aka James Gill, the southwest’s ‘Godfather of Rave’, Jam The Channel’s ‘Official Rave Expert’ and co-founder of festival rave temple Aeon, now in its 7th year. This will be The Magnet’s third d!d!d! Birthday appearance in as many years, testament to his undeniable ability to consistently instilling infectious party vibes on our dancefloor, pulling the freshest grooves from a selection only he could ever know the origin! [Check out his monthly charts on Resident Advisor for a heads up on all that’s seriously good, you can thank him on the 17th!] His wide-ranging adoration of all things rave will no doubt prove the ultimate precursor to our headline act, and as always it will be an absolute pleasure having Gilly among us.

Adding to the Friday night lineup for this years Aeon we welcome the very talented DJ CHEEBA for a full AV show, This appearance at Aeon is long overdue and we are chuffed to have him on board. This is seriously going to rock over the monster v-lux visual set up :)

DJ Cheeba is the sight and sound of Solid Steel’s new school. Always on top of emerging software, he quickly found his way to the forefront of the new breed of DJs now presenting audio and visuals through turntables. Mixing, scratching, cutting and remixing sounds and pictures in a true hip hop style.

Heady beats and blistering sounds come together with iconic music videos and obscure youtube gems as Bristol’s DJ Cheeba dices and splices audio and video live on turntables and midi pads with a nod to his turntablist history and love of cut and paste music. Following the invitation to join Ninja Tune’s legendary Solid Steel radio show as a resident in 2010, Cheeba has spent the last couple of years self releasing DVDs and relentlessly touring some of the most prestigious venues in the UK, all over europe and beyond.

Following the groundbreaking and much celebrated audio visual mixtapes ‘The Reels of Solid Steel’ and ‘Revenge of The Nerd’, Cheeba returns with this new show celebrating the release of ‘DJ Cheeba: Live’, his latest AV adventure which has already gained mass acclaim and earned him new fans worldwide.

Over the last few years Cheeba has shared stages and supported the likes of; Mos Def, Mixmaster Mike, Coldcut, Red Snapper, Dead Prez, DJ Yoda, Roots Manuva, Cinematic Orchestra, The Bays, Ghosface Killah, Cut Chemist, Kid Koala, Kruder and Dorfmeister, Hexstatic, Peanut Butter Wolf, DJ Krush, Bomb The Bass, DJ Kentaro, DJ Food & DK, J-Rocc, Anti Pop Consortium, Alice Russel, Questlove, Guru, DJ Vadim, Fingathing and many more.

Aeon 2012 > J:Kenzo [Artikal/Tempa]

J:Kenzo [Artikal / Blackbox / Tempa] plays Aeon 2012 in the JamTheChannel tent Friday night

DJ/Producer J:Kenzo is a sought after player within the Dubstep scene. Dub Dread Vibes with echoes of Jungle and Techno which reflect in both his Productions and his DJ Sets, both built to test the toughest of Sound systems and rock the hardest of dance floors.

J:Kenzo takes pride in his DJ sets with a heavyweight selection applying seamless blending and double drop mixing which has seen him travel the globe leaving satisfied fans screaming for more .

His production debut ‘Tekno Bass’ was released in 2007 and from then he has seen his music appear on some of the founding labels in the Dubstep scene such as Tempa Records, Dub Police, Argon Records, 2nd Drop and his own imprint Soul Shakerz.

In Late 2010 he caught the ear of veteran Dubstep DJ and Tempa A&R man DJ Youngsta who admired J:Kenzo for his original production flavors. With support from DJ Youngsta, J:Kenzo’s 2011 production ‘The Roteks’ was received by Dubstep audiences world wide with great anticipation. Sparking mass debates on internet forums and social networking sites as to the forthcoming release, which soon happened under the pioneering Dubstep label, Tempa. This release backed with flipside ‘Protected’ boosted Kenzo’s name within the scene and has had support from many of the top selectors within Dubstep such as Hatcha, N-Type, Distance and Emalkay to name a few, as well as crossing genres receiving support from one of the worlds most well known Techno DJs, Laurent Garnier.

In 2011, J:Kenzo was approached by BBC 1Xtra to carry out a fortnightly 1 Hour mix for Mistajam’s Daily Dose of Dubstep section. Showcasing exclusive dubplates and Kenzo’s take on the sound he is pushing from the Dubstep scene. J:Kenzo was also nominated three times in the dubstepforum awards 2012, including ‘Best Producer’ and two of his tracks featuring in the ‘Best Track’ category.

His fan base, commitment and professional approach has seen his touring pick up with huge pace. With resident sets at leading Dubstep night ‘FWD’ and London’s prestigious ‘Fabric’ nightclub as well as touring a number of cities around Europe as well as stretching out to the United States you’ll find the heat is steadily rising around the Kent-based selector and his performance demands are going through the roof.

J:Kenzo is keeping up the pace for 2012, which will see the second release from the Artikal imprint (Artikal is the new collaboration project & record label from UK artists J:Kenzo & Mosaix) which launched in December with the first release being ARTKL001: Artikal – Alone in the Darkness/ (DJ Madd Remix)/ Voyager.  And with  a remix of TMSV & DJ Madd on Blackbox out shortly aswell as a forthcoming project for Tempa Records with all news to be revealed very soon…He really is one to watch for 2012 :)

Jay Sanders – Back from Berlin January chart

Jay just clocked in his January Resident Adviser chart.

Lots of great new tunes. After just getting back from what seems like his fiftieth visit in the last twleve months it shows that music is not harmful.  Good to see Butane in the chart.  Lots of good stuff from Butane on Cross Town Rebels  with Inferno Jack and also with his Little Helpers lable.

WOKKA
LOW VEE DISKO vs MINIKRAFT

Plus: XYZ: VISUAL ARCHITECTS

Wokka

Wokka aka Redbelly. SWU radio host and long standing/swaggering DJ for JamTheChannel – a collective of rave generators, field funkers, basement bumpers, boat rockers and club jackers.

I dont think there’s a party this side of Bristol he hasn’t played at. If he hasn’t – he’ll turn up with a bag of records at some point.

Wonky, deep, funky, jackin’ bassy and weird is how he likes it.

Low Vee Disko vs MiniKraft

JamTheChannel’s German tickler Derek Minuten and his French counterpart Sebastien Planchon played for us as Low Vee Disko this time last year, and they absolutely smashed it for two hours with some fine examples of fresh house music, and some filthy tech grooves.
This year they’re matched up against dance!dance!dance! DJs Krafty Sounds and Ministere, aka MiniKraft – both known to play a variety of grooves from disco to techno, all the way from berlin to chicago – fused together in this double act. This is going to be fearsome battle off over 3 hours, with the only winner set to be the music.

JamTheChannel roll on from the full house of the Blawan gig with the Big Like House crew to kick start their monthly residency at the Cellar Door Exeter.

This will fall [pretty much] on the last Saturday of each month. At these party’s we will be welcoming the best in local, national & international house music DJ talent with some tasty guest’s in the pipeline for you all :)

We kick start the show’s by welcoming some very special local talent, as well as a couple of ressie’s to start things off with DJ’s….

SWAYEE – http://soundcloud.com/swayee/swayees-chuggy-house-mix

Swayee aka long standing south west breakbeat DJ, producer & promoter Andromeda has recently found and all new love for all things house music… after finding love for it at an ice cream van @ Glade Festival this year. After 15 years behind the decks playing at club’s all over the South West as well as performances at Aeon, Glastonbury, The Glade & Beautiful Days festivals this lady certainly knows how to rock a party.

SEB PLANCHON – http://soundcloud.com/sebastien_lvd/march2011mix

One half of Low Vee Disko & superstar chef Seb Planchon is no stranger to the vibe of JTC. If he’s not playing with Minuten as Low Vee Disko he will always be on the dancefloor rocking it hard. This month we welcome him to play a solo set. Expect deep, dirty & quirky bass heavy house from this badboy.

GEORGE KENDRICK – http://soundcloud.com/gfunkendo/gk-movember-mix-2011

Born and bred in Exeter George first caught the dance music bug through his brother’s Universe & fantasia tape packs. From there he started on the 1200′s and never looked back. George plays a wide range of electronic music taking in Deep & Tech House, Breaks, Techno, Progressive & Dubstep with major influence coming from producers like Sasha, Midland, Seth Troxler, Ramadanman, Maceo Plex, Maya Jane Coles & Scuba to name but a few.

SLEAZY DAN – http://soundcloud.com/sleazydisco/aeon-mix

Long time friend and DJ to the JTC crew… Dan has been knocking round since the days of Soundcheck [pre JTC club night run by The Magnet & crew] and also a regular at the legendary Squeeze party’s & Rocket playing his sometimes deep & sometimes dirty house beats with dj partner The Brain. He has recently come out of DJ retirement and started up the Audio Driven nights in Ottery St Mary.

Shibbs in Detroit!

Havin just played at the Beatport lounge (Beatport is a mssive online record store for dance music. Probably the biggest)

Shibbs is now making her way to Detroit to play! woohoo get in. Pretty much accepted as the birthplace of  Techno we think this is quite a big deal.

nospectacle presents: a night of dub/ambient audio/video overstimulation featuring matthew hawtin (ca), nospectacle (usa/ca) and special guest siobhan mckeown (uk).

It looks like a great hook up for Shibbs playing with people who also share her passion for film making.

The trio of digital artists that make up nospectacle -Christopher McNamara, Jennifer Paull and Walter Wasacz -bring with them backgrounds in electronic arts, performance, photography, video production and music criticism. Together, they stir up a sonic and visual experience using original and found material that they edit and remix live. The process is a perpetual motion machine, the medium becomes the message. The group appeared at the 2010 MUTEK festival in Montreal, Detroit’s Movement in 2008 and has performed at the Detroit Film Theatre, the Max M. Fisher Music Center and Cranbrook Art Museum.

Shitegeist set to rep JTC in America

Shibby Shitegeist is set to rep JAMTHECHANNEL and DANZSHLAG next month in America. Their economy may be slipping down the pan, but their techno scene is still booming!

On Friday 18th November she’ll be headlining the infamous Beatport Lounge (Beta Nightclub) with a 3 hour twisted techno, dub-techno, and bass set. This is part of Denver’s eclectic minimal label EMOTE’s showcase night. Shibby will be sharing the bill with ‘techno ambassador’ John Templeton (Oban), who co-runs EMOTE and is the brainchild behind Denver’s GATF (Great American Techno Festival). The club has been voted no.15 in the world, and no.1 in the USA by DJ Mag 2011, and has been likened to Berlin’s Watergate with its beautiful LED lighting and Funktion-One sound. Check out the club’s website here

Following this, Shibby will be winging over to the ‘homeland of techno’, Detroit, to play alongside nospectacle. Hopefully both sets will be recorded!

Wish her some extra rave-expert luck! In the meantime, she’s recorded this set for y’all to download (follow the link). http://soundcloud.com/shibby-shitegeist/shibby-shitegeist-laptop

Blawan visits Exeter

Big Like House & JamTheChannel presents:
—————————————————————————-
BLAWAN [Clone / Hessle Audio / Rinse FM / R & S]
http://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/blawan
—————————————————————————-

Yes Yes!

BLH & JTC team up for a night of UK Funky / House & Techno presenting
one of the true nuskool leaders of the ever evolving bass music scene.

Blawan’s “Fram/Iddy” release on one of the finest labels going, Hessle
Audio, caused quite a stir in the UK underground with gossip mongers
sparking off false rumors that it was an alias for Hessle Audio
co-founder, Ben UFO. Another monster that also put him on the map…
was the massive Brandy sampling “Getting Me Down”. This had been
getting rinsed yet again from the Hessle crew since January and saw a
cheeky white label only release back in may this year.

His cold, percussive productions grabbed the attention of not only
Hessle Audio but legendary record label R&S
Records, Who released his “Bohla EP” in March 2011.With second release
on R & S “What You Do With What You Have” out now. Aswell as pricking
up on Radiohead’s ears who asked him to remix “Bloom” for Radiohead’s
The Kings Of Limb remix album.

Moving away from the known electronic trickery of his sound Blawan’s
latest remix of Beastie Respond’s “Syncopy” on Teal Recordings see’s
the artist heading down a more Techno based route, leading onto his
forthcoming, much talked about first release for legendary Techno
label Clone…. With a 4 tracker of phat techno stabs & harsh
bassline’s being compared to none other than Jeff Mills

And aswell as his solo work he has teamed up with fellow R & S
recording artist Pariah to form Karenn – an alias that has, so far,
seen them focus on bloshy, druggy, late night techno. So far the only
official release has been the remix of West Norwood Cassette Library’s
“Get Lifted” out on WNCL Recordings in August, But the pair have just
released details of there joint label ‘Works The Long Nights’ with
Sheworks001 coming out in November on 180g vinyl only.

If the production blurb doesnt inspire you his DJ set’s have been
killing it all over the place over the past year. His skills have
taken him to two of the biggest most forward thinking clubs in the
world Fabric – London & Berghain – Berlin aswell as forthcoming gigs
at Melkweg – Amsterdam, Motion – Bristol, The Warehouse Project -
Manchester & many many more we really cannot wait for him to rip the
Cavern to shreds.

DANZSHLAG presents DoubtingThomas

After the roaring success of the last DANZSHLAG at Performance Space with headliner FILASTINE, the two collectives come together again to put on another mean warehouse party! aka THE Dutty D.T DANZSHLAG!

DOUBTINGTHOMAS (31337/ safari electronique/ Mean)

NOKKEN (E-Minor/ RetroMetro/ UNT Records)

SHIBBY SHITEGEIST (DANZSHLAG/ JamTheChannel)

BUNNI SPLANCHNIK (DANZSHLAG/ MVM)

VISUALS FROM VJ mediapunk

10pm-6am / Tickets: £7.50 adv (Available from RA) // £10 (Door) / Sound Provided by ninebarsound

We are excited to welcome acclaimed producer and established fixture of the London underground scene, French born producer DoubtingThomas who has released on the likes of 31337, Igloo Rec, Safari Electronique, Mean Records and Serialism.

- ” His down tempo, minimal house and quirky techno always look for the patterns and structure of the inner sound. Sequences within the sound, reaction of the mind and body as well as the interaction of images across the music….these are the ideas behind DoubtingThomas’s music”

We also welcome back South African London based producer Nokken fresh off the back of a gig in Hamburg with Camea and Tim Xavier, with releases on E-Minor, Retro Metro, UNT! and an EP on WunderKammer in the pipeline..

DoubtingThomas
http://soundcloud.com/doubtingthomas

French born, London based Aurelien aka DoubtingThomas first started his musical journey in 1998 after a childhood obsession with drums and their rythmatic allure. Producing down tempo and electronic sounds led to a rapid progression into live recordings and soundscaping which lured him away from France and into London in 2000. Here he studied Sound Engineering at the acclaimed SAE and continued his ever growing passion for freedom of expression.

London and its underground electronic music scene rapidly became Aurelien’s main focus and he began composing for independent films and collaborating on projects with London’s up and coming underground artists whilst defining his concept as DoubtingThomas and his sound on the scene. Regular nights at TBar, The End, Unit 7 and numerous renowned venues led to meeting and working alongside Doudou Malicious’s ‘Multivitamins Records’, Buenos Aire’s Dilo’s infamous ‘Igloo Records’ as well as Cesare vs Disorder’s brainchild ‘Serialism’ and San Francisco based ‘Two Circles’ . DoubtingThomas’s upcoming releases on 31337 and Release Sustain later this year look set to project his unique sound further into his creative element, alongside the numerous releases we have seen and heard from DoubtingThomas to date.

NOKKEN
http://soundcloud.com/nokken

Hailing from South Africa, Nokken began DJing at the tender age of 12. He played at many warehouse parties and club nights in South Africa and moved to London to pursue music. Nokken has played at Turnmills, 1001, Gramaphone, The Rhythm Factory, Public Life, 512, The Russian Bar, Departure Lounge, The Jamm, The Light Bar, to name afew and alongside DJs such as Pure Science, Sweet n Candy, Saytek, Massimo Licari, Alex Capelli, Lump, Ladida and Tadeo. Nokken began producing and managed a record label Minimal Force for a few years but left the company in search of a more creative environment to focus on his production. This year Nokken has released on E-minor Binary and his first E.P is out now on Metroline/Retroline. The second E.P on Unt Records is out now. In 2010 he formed incube8 with fellow DJ and promoter Bunni Splanchnik (Danzshlag), which has been hosting regular nights such as Man V Machine, Machine Love and Salon of Nonesuch with many more to follow later in the year.

SHIBBY SHITEGEIST
http://soundcloud.com/shibby-shitegeist

Shibby Shitegeist plays a pounding blend of glitchy, percussive minimal, cheeky hooks, and low-frequency driven tech-house, dub-techno and electronica. She takes having a sense of humor on the dance floor seriously.

Shibby, resident DJ for JamTheChannel, co-founded the nomadic techno party DANZSHLAG in 2006, as well as promoting Plymouth’s Hoodoo, an experimental club night featuring fully immersive multi-screen projections. She has regularly played at underground parties in London, Bristol, Hamburg, and across Devon. Her calendar for autumn 2011 presents a series of exciting gigs at home and abroad, including playing at the Beatport Lounge, Denver, Colorado this November.

BUNNI SPLANCHNIK
http://soundcloud.com/bunni-splanchnik

London based DJ and producer, Bunni Splanchnik aka Ellie Fawcett plays a unique blend of charismatic and quirky techno infused with everything from 1920s big band, Chilean folk, flamenco to Russian Choral, Classical and Afrobeat, anything goes and as long as it is still driving the dance floor – Expect the unexpected!

As co-founder of DANZSHLAG and more recently Man V. Machine, and visual artist, Bunni juggles between promoter, artist and DJ.
Bunni has been putting on parties and playing in London, Paris, Exeter, Bristol, Plymouth and Norwich and has DJed at warehouse parties, club nights, and venues such as Public Life, The Lord Napier, The Russian Bar, Basement 45, Under The Dust studios, Question Mark, The Red Star, 512, Bar Vinyl, Electro Kitchen, Tramps, CAMP, Unit 10, Camp Bestival.

Tim Sheridan @ Aeon 2011

Tim Sheridan has been loosely involved in music his whole life. Starting as a kid with classical music and while being generally bone idle he excelled in mediocrity at Violin, French Horn and Double Bass. He gave up the Horn as when in it’s case it resembles a toilet and one enterprising schoolkid left a ‘gift’ on there on day and he never touched it again. Which is just as well because it was jolly difficult to play. He moved to Orchestral Percussion (which involved doing nothing for 148 bars… then very little… then nothing for 682 bars… he’s good at counting while wearing a tuxedo). However he was saved by a move to the drumkit and has got away with being a nerd ever since. He worked in Leed’s main recording and rehearsal studio in the 80′s when it was the centre of The Goth phenomena for 5 minutes, although he maintains he was a late starting Punk although photographic evidence requires scientific equipment to tell the difference.
The Utah Saints, then an experimental elecronic group and rave promoters, gave Tim his first break by awarding him the prize for “most comical dancer” at one of their early events. Although Tim wasn’t trying to be funny he took the prize anyway. This led to a life-long friendship and after being mentioned in The KLF’s book “The Manual” they were all inspired to have a pop at Pop and take the piss a bit. Sadly while they were poncing around thinking they were the KLF everyone else thought they were twats. It’s a fine line.
Although the experience with the Major Labels was a financial disaster, strangely Tim was allowed to direct Pop promos and was the first director ever to utilise ‘Motion Capture’ in an animated promo and was sought after as a director. Something he managed to avoid somehow as he was told about the seeking but resolutely remained unfound. His fictional Pop band “Dope Smugglaz” were originally cartoon creations several years before ‘Gorillaz’. But some decades after ‘Alvin and The Chipmunks’.
Like all embarrassing crap bios force-written about themselves, Tim has been bullied into telling you he is ace at other
stuff but draws the line at telling you what. His party trick is making all the girls disappear. With his highly credible background of Pop cartoons and annoying chart ‘success’, Tim was bizarrely still in demand as a DJ and has been the main resident for some of the world’s biggest clubs. Something he gave up after the discovery that they were actually businesses and not parties. At this point, being a slow learner, he realised commercialism is the enemy of art. So that’s being a functioning member of society fucked then.
Around the Millennium the industry took a turn for the worse and Tim saw this and the Iraq War as a perfect opportunity to run away and hide. Choosing Ibiza as a base rather then the cupboard under his Mum’s stairs (first choice, occupied) Tim was mistaken for somebody cool by the european community and has kept them in the dark ever since. He is still proudly considered a waste of space in the UK though, the english having long memories and griping being the national pastime he is semi-living proof that it is “better to be talked about than not at all” being absolute bollocks.
Work for charity blah blah, free parties in Ibiza etc etc. Online protests against war etc etc, turning wine into water Blah blah. My fingers are tired now and would a grown up please write a bio for me?
Actually something he is actually proud of is for a short window of 2 years Tim ran Kiss FM in the North of England and it was so good it got aggressively taken over by a big network. He lost everything and they changed the locks. And the playlist. But it was good for a bit. He’d probably be good on the Radio again but it would be a bit like giving a trigger happy veteran a gun and a church tower.
Tim’s made records, played records and burned the candle at so many ends he looks like a wrinkled flaming swastika. He has arthritis and a dog and likes nothing more than the complete absence of human beings unless they are very nice and polite. He is wealth resistant to 100 meters but rich in so few other ways. Like still having hair.
He lives in a hut in Ibiza and grows beards at competition level for fun. If you meet him come say hello, he won’t bite. But he may gnaw a little.
stuff Tim has done.
Made records.
Been an old fashioned Producer
Is now a new fashioned Producer (i.e gets the engineer to do all the work)
Been on TV a bit.
Been an MD (musical director)
Writes for Newspapers, magazines and the net and has never been paid for it. Except Jockey Slut. Who pitied him.
Promotes parties, raves, odd one off events.
Started a record label exactly when everyone stopped paying for music (earning him the nickname ‘the Betamax kid’)
Mostly been a DJ for 28 years. Played at pretty much every decent club in the world  (and most of the shit ones) but his
favourite places in no particular order are ;
Back to Basics
Be Yourself
Dc10
Superfreq
Somewhere
Space
and anywhere weird and unusual that isn’t a club.
Lately Tim prefers to play back to back with Friends and those have included Smokin’ Jo, Mr.C, DJ.T, Jon Carter, Simon Baker, Alfredo, Danny Tenaglia, Mike Monday and many more….
Tim’s umbrella company “veryverywrongindeed” or the preferred VVWI monicker encompasses one of the UK’s most successful record labels, live events promotions, artist management agency, radio station and media consultancy providers. Naturally several other people do entirely all the work. The weirdest thing is lately Tim tours Universities lecturing in several areas of media, which is pretty rum for someone who can barely count above four.
Most recent is Tim’s one man mission to reclaim the word ‘live’ from JohnnyMcLaptop and his ilk by having a band of classically trained musicians given MIDI instruments and perform his music scored and unsequenced. This ridiculously expensive massive vanity project can be seen here :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcauDs0j6-g
and at Dc10 every Thursday from August onwards,
and weekly in Shoreditch for members of :http://www.vvwilive.com
http://www.veryverywrongindeed.com/releases.php
Tim is always reachable on his forum as “Sherrers” at :http://vvwi.forumotion.com/

Kasra [Critical Music] @ Aeon 2011

Kasra join’s our Friday night gang of Rockwell, Jack Sparrow & V.I.V.E.K.  A true pioneer of the darker rolling drum & bass scene who has spread his sound worldwide as a DJ with Vienna, Budapest, Shanghai, Beijing, Miami, Berlin and his beloved London featuring in his flyer collection. And when he’s not pushing his sound on the decks he’s busy being head honcho of one of the most respected underground dance labels in the UK Critical Music.

Links

http://www.criticalmusic.com

http://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/kasra

http://soundcloud.com/critical-music/critical-sound-of-drum-bass-mini-mix

Biography

Since his first forays into drum & bass in the late 1990′s as a burgeoning young DJ, there’s no doubt in 2011 that Kasra has made an indelible mark on the scene, a mark that continues to grow ever-stronger as his Critical Music empire prospers.

Conceived back in 2002 in a front room in north London, the label has grown from a simple idea driven by a commitment to putting out the best music the scene has to offer; it has now become one of the most well respected underground dance music labels in the UK. Nurturing new talent and releasing some of the freshest breaks and beats from the likes of Break, Rockwell, Breakage, Cyantific, Marcus Intalex, S.P.Y, Calibre, Total Science and many more, it has gone on to build a loyal following around the world driven on by Kasra’s never ending quest to release quality underground bass music.

As Critical’s figurehead the demand for Kasra’s DJ’ing skills has escalated to the point of a schedule that sees him playing regularly every weekend throughout the UK and rest of the world. Vienna, Budapest, Shanghai, Beijing, Miami, Berlin and of course his beloved London are just a few of the places that have beared witness to the Critical sound and the list just keeps getting longer. Quite a feat these days for someone who’s not yet really taken the production bull by the horns.

Though this could be about to change as Kasra’s back in the studio readying his own takes on the Critical sound; a collaboration with S.P.Y. is already complete and due for a May 2011 release date as well as solo productions gradually working their way into the sets of the great and the good of the dnb community.

Not content with a release schedule bursting with future classics and his own rigorous DJ’ing schedule continually on the up, the label even now boasts its own residency at one of the worlds best electronic music venues , Fabric, where it can regularly be seen smashing up the place with an always superstar cast of DJing elite from D&B and beyond. So now as heads turn and eyes look forward to the rest of 2011 it seems this could be the tipping point for Kasra both as a DJ and a label head of one of the most inspiring imprints in dance music today. The Critical age is only just beginning.

Eats Everything (Catz n Dogz/Southern Fried) @ Aeon

The JTC crew are very pleased to announce that we have another top quality nu school house producer coming to play on the Sunday night at the festival.

A fast-rising DJ/producer with a machine-like work ethic, in a little less than a year Dan Pearce aka Eats Everything already boasts a clutch of releases and remixes on Southern Fried, Catz n Dogz, and San City High. With Anabatic and MofoHifi also lining titles up, interest in this young gun is starting to swell. Claude von Stroke, Riva Starr, Hijack, and The Young Punx regularly support his titles, and features have been blogged on Annie Mac Presents, Jackmode, and Mad Decent. Phew! Leading international dance music magazine, Mixmag weren’t wrong when they claimed Eats Everything is One To Watch

Bio

The gracefully rotund (don’t call him fat, that’s not polite) jackin’/techy/whatever-ey house producer ‘Eats Everything’ quite frankly is brilliant! In fact so brilliant that his retro sounding, sample heavy tracks that pay homage to everything from Randy Crawford to Ray Charles will be sure to dominate the airwaves as they already are DJ boxes across the world…Yes, the world! South Africa are mad forhim even though he’s never been and is as west country as they get!

Eats Everything has already been asked to remix Gramophonedzie’s up coming work as well as being one of the official re-mixers on the new major re-release of Rosie Gaines’ ‘Closer Than Close’, Mighty Dub Katz – Magic Carpet Ride and Space Cowboy – I Would Die 4 U for none other than Fatboy Slims Southern Fried Records.

He is one of the of the UK’s fastest up and coming DJ/Producers right now, with a huge following in his home town and a solid reputation for his unforgettable trademark sets, combining the latest and greatest, oldest and boldest sounds in his own unique cutting-edge style. Never one to compromise, Eats Everything’s DJ sets both inspire and conspire to create the life and soul of any Event or Party you will find him at. With a fiery blend of all kinds of dance music and a twist of the improbable thrown in for good measure, you can be sure that Mr. Everything is always cooking up the unexpected to tantalise your ear holes and fill your belly.

Eats Everything’s music is much the same, with releases already on San City High, Simma and Venga Digital, and upcoming releases on Southern Fried Records, Disko Zoo (Gramophonedzies label), OMG!, Wearhouse Music and Simma to name but a few. With no real genre boundaries, just a promise that whatever style it is it promises to be either chunky, squelchy, squeaky or funky, or all of the above combined in some kind of f_cked up order!! Bass driven pumpers with slinky beats are what to expect and Mr. Eats never, ever disappoints!

Support from the likes of Riva Starr, Kissy Sellout, Micky Slim, Will Bailey, Gramophonedzie and Hijack is just the start with his records being played the world over by all kinds of DJs.

Midland [Aus Music/Phonica] @ Aeon

Yes Yes

Rather excited about this one :) another leader of the nu school touches base with the JamTheChannel crew @ Shobrooke Park this August.

Midland made his 2010 debut alongside longtime friend Pearson Sound aka Ramadanman, with their anthemic track “Your words matter”. The pair wove, defied and played with a number of genres and, in doing so, Midland laid a clear foundation stone for his vision of how electronic music could be.

It is a sound that is rooted in House and Techno but with the rumbling low end of Dubstep and wide screen experimentation of classic Electronica. His contribution to the esteemed Fact Mix Series further demonstrated this diversity and wit, bringing in influences from across the sonic and musical board.

His subsequent releases on Phonica and More Music as well as remixes for Ninja Tune, Werk Discs, Southern Fried and PMR have gained fans from many different avenues of electronic music.

With wide ranging and solid support from djs including Sasha, Mary Anne Hobbs and Giles Peterson as well as further forthcoming solo and collaborative work with artists like Pariah and Ben Westbeech, Midland’s intriguing, offbeat story has only just begun.

V.I.V.E.K [Deep Medi] @ Aeon

Todays electronic music scene revolves continuously on hype, and there are few artists and label camps that can rely almost entirely on their musical content to do their talking. Mala’s ‘Deep Medi’ camp and V.I.V.E.K the artist are noted exceptions to this rule.

Influenced by the golden years of Drum N Bass and a steady diet of dub and roots music, V.I.V.E.K has been honing his musical construction skills since 2004. Progressing naturally from DJing to production, and originally beginning to build music around the 170 tempo, 140 bpm was the pitch that worked for V.I.V.E.K to shape his unique subterranean groove.

With one 12″ release under his belt for ‘On The Edge’, fellow soundscaper Silkie passed a CD of his productions to DMZ / Deep Medi visionary Mala. The launching pad into musical infamy was then set with his first 12″ for the innovative camp (‘Kulture’ / ‘Meditiation Rock’) in 2009. The momentum this release initiated was to spark a flurry of concentrated creative power, and many sought after dubplates from V.I.V.E.K. The ‘Feel It’ EP was the culmination of this period of focus. This 4 track EP and its attached ‘Mix Session’ CD captured his vision succinctly and solidified V.I.V.E.K’s reputation as one of the most talented artists working in the 140 framework today.

Fervent support for V.I.V.E.K music has always come from the DJ’s that fully understand the power that 140 BPM holds when the construction is pure. Mala, Youngsta, N Type, Mary Anne Hobbs, Skream, Distance, Giles Peterson, Mistajam, Nihal (BBC Radio 1), & Anti Social have all been compasses that chart the sonic progress of the V.I.V.E.K sound.

As a Deep Medi artist, V.I.V.E.K himself has become a regular DJ on the DMZ / Deep Medi nights, recently playing sets that have become highlights for many at the DMZ 6th birthday celebrations in London and Amsterdam. Chest rattling, consciousness moving exclusives are the norm here, and catching one of these performances is a potent reminder of why we all fell in love so deeply with the dubstep sound.

2011 sees the internet on fire again with clips and youtube videos of the latest batch of V.I.V.E.K dubplates, Deep Medi is set to drop the ‘Eyes Down’ EP in May 2011,and it’s comforting to know that this is only the beginning of what promises to be the year V.I.V.E.K comes out from the shadows to the forefront of bass music with more stellar releases and genuinely important DJ sets.

Chris James [Anabatic/Artform/Dub Noir] @ Aeon 2011

Chris James is hot property right about now! Head honcho of Dub Noir & recording artist for Worthy’s Anabatic Records, Jamie Anderson’s Artform & our old friend James Amato’s Potty Mouth Music. With his tunes being spun by the likes of Claude Vonstroke, Jesse Rose, Justin Martin, Derrick Carter and many many more  its not hard to see why he got signed up to Jackmode agency at the beginning of the year.

http://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/chrisjames
http://soundcloud.com/chris-james-mixes/chris-james-mixtape-for-pulse-radio-jan-2011

Chris James is a DJ and Producer based in Birmingham, UK.

Emerging from obscurity in early 2005, Chris hit the UK club scene after several years successfully pioneering popular regional radio shows; his skill as DJ and selector quickly earned him residencies at some of Birmingham’s most important House nights.

With his recognition swiftly snowballing, it wasn’t long before Chris was hitting the decks around the nation, and even as far afield as Ibiza and Australia. His exploits have earned him sets at clubs such as Ministry of Sound, Turnmills, Empire and Monastery to name but a few.

Having been a hobby producer for some time, Chris began to focus seriously on his production in early 2008, and his tracks can now be found in the CD wallets of DJs such as Claude VonStroke, Jesse Rose, Derrick Carter, Justin Martin, Jamie Anderson, Riva Starr, Renaissance Man, Mark Knight, Laidback Luke, Tom Flynn, Round Table Knights, Worthy, Saeed Younan, Nic Fanciulli, Catz N Dogz, Jet Project, Daniel Haaksman, Brodinski, Wolfgang Gartner, Camel, Solo, Hannah Holland and many, many more.

With releases on labels including; Potty Mouth Music, Anabatic, Artform, and Dubnoir (his own imprint), Chris James is proving to be a heavy hitter in the realm of the up and coming DJ/Producer, and is propped by many to be one to watch.

With so many contacts made along the swift route Chris took to becoming a known name in the House circuit, he found no trouble collecting contributors for his own brand; DubNoir Music.

The label has been gaining considerable steam over the last few years, and with support from aforementioned names above aswell as the likes of Annie Mac (Radio 1), Kissy Sellout (Radio 1), Dj Zinc, Oliver $, Sinden and releases from artists such as Tom Flynn & Edu K, it certainly is an imprint set to be a powerful player in the scene.

Chris James is set to have a busy 2011; with several residencies under his belt, playing with the likes of Jesse Rose, Justin Martin, Zombie Disco Squad, Roska, Mary Anne Hobbs and others, increasing his demand both nationally as well as across the globe, and with DubNoir showing no signs of slowing it’s assault of celebrated output, it is time to take note.

Bok Bok [Night Slugs/Rinse FM] @ Aeon 2011

JamTheChannel are very proud to have a true leader of the new school headling for us on the Saturday night at this years festival. The Night Slugs co owner with L-Vis 1990 without a doubt blew up last year crossing all boundries with his DJ sets and Productions. Support for the label’s tunes have come from all corners of the underground with Martyn, Catz ‘N Dogz, Sinden, Paul Woolford, Brodinski + many more all charting Night Slugs Flava’s. We are very excited to be bringing him to Devon for the first time amongst a summer of gigs at Sonar, Outlook, Electric Elephant & many more.

http://nightslugs.net/

http://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/bokbok
http://www.xlr8r.com/podcast/2010/10/bok-bok

2010 saw Bok Bok stand amongst London’s underground music elite. His sound is unique and ever evolving, quintessentially UK but also alien – a grimy futuristic house/space crunk.

As a DJ, Bok Bok has been stacking riddims like Lego bricks since 2004. His roots lie deep in the UK Grime sound. Grime productions obliterated the rulebook, broke club music down to its rawest elements and rebuilt it into new forms. Unorthodox in every way, that music set off Bok Bok down a unique path.

Since then he has spread his sights wider, taking in elements of gutter styles from around the globe, all of which share a certain off-the-wall bass-heavy vibe. Disregarding purism he instead hunts all over for fresh dubplates.

A Long-standing collaboration with fellow London DJ Manara saw Bok Bok perform across the UK, Europe and the US and record mixtapes for such institutions as Bloggaridims, Mad Decent and WFMU.

In 2007 Bok Bok entered the world of production, at first building tools for his own DJ sets then moving onto original material. Beatmaking quickly became a major focus as his tracks found a place amongst London’s new wave of pioneers. As a remixer he would apply the reckless attitude of early Grime, flipping tracks into a whole new context. Bok Bok remixes of Dre Skull, Jinder, Kingdom, Crazy Cousinz and many others are tried and tested underground bangers in clubs internationally.

In 2008 Bok Bok teamed up with like-minded producer L-Vis 1990 to launch Night Slugs, a club night dedicated to their new hybrid sound. Over its two year existence the party has become a cornerstone of the city’s music scene, hosting both homegrown stars and international guests, nurturing fresh talent and showcasing the best forward thinking club music cross-genre. In late 2009, Night Slugs expanded into a label, drawing together a crew of protagonists from various backgrounds: Kingdom from NYC, Egyptrixx from Toronto and Girl Unit, Mosca, Greena and Jam City from the UK.

2010 also sees Night Slugs join London’s legendary Rinse FM. Catch Bok Bok & L-Vis 1990 fortnightly on Mondays 1-3pm GMT.

Venue History:
——————————————————-
The Castle of Exeter stands atop the highest part of the city, within the north-east angle of the city walls. From the reddish colour of the volcanic rock on which it stood, it became known locally as Rougemont Castle.

The castle was first built in 1068 to help William the Conqueror maintain control over the city.

Until 2003 the castle remained the seat of royal power in the county and served as home to Exeter’s Crown and County Courts. As a result the castle has been one of the least known and accessible parts of the city, and few local residents had set foot beyond its gates.

The buildings were sold by the Department of Constitutional Affairs to a private development partnership. New courts were built in Exeter’s legal quarter.

≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡
Venue Layout:
——————————————————-
The old County Court building currently sits in the castle’s large courtyard and is a huge Georgian mansion. Having entered the covered courtyard (smoking area!) via one of the buildings’ 3 colossal arches, you then go through double doors into an ornate central foyer, lined with large stone arches on either side.

To the left is Court room No.1, a large square-ish derelict space, with a sky high ceiling. Having been stripped back to the brickwork (awaiting further rennovation), it has an industrial, warehousey feel to it.

To the left of the foyer is Court room No.2. This has been tastefully transformed into a light, clean and roomy gallery space with cream coloured walls, featuring several balconies, white railings and large paintings, including a staggering large and beautiful framed oil canvas above the largest balcony.

The rest of the building is a maze of corridors and countless rooms, some of which are beeing converted into office space and flats. Beneath the building lie the old holding cells, which have since been converted into toilets.

Many of the original features remain though, including insightful graffiti on the back of the doors such as “They say crime doesn’t pay. But it’s not my real job, it’s a hobby!”

All the JTC crew have played at DDD at some point with Bump and Minuten down there just before Christmas.

Heres what they say:

We are two! To celebrate we’re throwing ourselves a full fat rave, and inviting all of you along to come along and join the party in the usual Dance!Dance!Dance! style. This time with a few special treats along the way =]

BEATSWORKIN (MASTERPLAN RECORDS – BRIGHTON)

We are very proud to present to you a special techy Birthday treat from the pebbly shores of Brighton Beach in the form of South Coast House legends Beatsworkin aka Jamie Bawn and Chris Eaton of Masterplan Records. 2010 has been a great year for the DJ and production duo, most notably for their hugely successful night Beatsworkin, responsible for showcasing some top homegrown as well as international talent in the scene today, most recently London Tech House legend Dave Mothersole, amazing live act Saytek, ultra smooth Greek groover Alex Celler and Argentina’s Jay West. These parties continue to provide Brighton and Hove with a unique Underground House sound, so far removed from the goings on further up the strip.

Away from their own night, Jamie and Chris have played alongside some of the best respected names in the business, including Jeff Mills, Tom Middleton, Layo and Bushwacka, Carl Cox, Andrew Weatherall, Terry Francis, Inland Knights and Joey Negro to name but the pick of the bunch. An indication of the diversity and variety of influences that is likely to transpire during our special 2nd Birthday set.

Beatsworkin are making waves in the studio too, with their next release due out on Masterplan Records very early in 2011 they will certainly be building on their already solid releases, ‘This is It’ and ‘Cuban Acid’. You will no doubt have heard upcoming release and Ministère favourite ‘Lemon Slice (Orange Peel Remix)’ at one of our previous nights so look out for that one on usual online sites.

Santas ghetto, SWU Christmas party

For the 3rd year running the clever people running Southwestundergroundare  throwing their annual Christmas bash featuring a selection of South West DJs who have ended up on Santa’s naughty list this year.  All 46 of them have been actively misbehaving during 2010, on the radio, in the studio, behind the decks and at raves all over.

The La Boca resturant one was mad with ques around the block (Wokka and Mag on the door talking to girls), the Hole in the wall was plain damn messy and this will be no different. Better than the Phonic party fo sure!!!

Justin Harris Bio
Justin Harris’ illustrious musical career kicked off way back in 1987 when he was a regular DJ at the first pioneering Acid House events in the UK. He later went on to become one half of the DJ partnership North & South (Nigel Casey, House of 909), who were infamous on the Warehouse and free party / DiY circuit throughout the UK and Europe… a blur follows of free parties, thrills, pills, and belly laughs..read on..
Upon moving to London in the early 90’s, Justin turned his technical dexterity to the studio and began making some of the most innovative and leftfield house music around. Eight years ago, he teamed up with Luke Solomon to create the groundbreaking Freaks project. Freaks have over 80 productions under their belt, including remixes for artists such as Revlon9, Matthew Herbert, The Good Books, Kassabian, Soft Cell, The Human League, Derrick Carter, Greenskeepers, Tiefschwarz and Damon Albarn to name a few… and have themselves recorded for such esteemed labels as Perlon, Wally’s Groove World, Classic, Playhouse, International Deejay Gigolo, Silver Network and of course the legendary Music For Freaks (MFF) and Classic Recordings.
Freaks, over the last nine years, have continued to concentrate their musical output on their own ‘Music For Freaks’ imprint and have released around 20 EPs along with Three Albums – ‘The Beat Diaries’ , ‘Meanwhile Back At The Disco’ and the most recent ‘Man Who Lived Underground’. All three albums were creative landmarks in house and electronic music production, bending people’s perceptions of how house music should sound. Probably also worth mentioning is the fact that one of the songs Creeps (originally from their album ‘The Man Who Lived Underground’) got to number 9 in the UK pop charts and was a huge dance anthem around the world. No mean feat for a dance track these days..Freaks have been writing and recording their next album ‘I LOVE TECHNOLOGY’ for over three years now and this project promises to be an oasis in this confused world of electronic music. Their current releases include the weird and wonderful EP ‘U Make No Sense’ out now on Crosstown Rebels and the wonderful collaboration with Robert Owens – ‘Right Now’ Also out now on Rebirth Records. Also available now by Freaks is the wonderful ‘Best Of Times’ Album which is a fine collection past and present of tracks by Freaks. This has been getting great press recently..
Other highlights of Justin’s sonic career over the years include further collaborations with Luke Solomon under the Robotic Movement, Oliloqui and Freesoul (also featuring Diesel) guises. The audio fruits of these partnerships found homes on seminal house labels such as Classic, Phono, 20/20 Vision, Large, Seasons and SSR and of course their own Wash House imprint.
Justin has also recorded his own solo projects as himself or Philippe Maurice for Classic, Sensory Productions, Swag and Tombone. He also runs an underground house label ‘Paranoid’ with old friend and side-kick Lil Mark (Classic Recordings) which is now on it’s seventh release and has been geting world-wide support from such Dj’s as Chris Duckenfield, Mark Farina, Ritchie Hawtin, Rob Mello, Laurent Garnier and Linus.
Over his 22 year DJ’ing career Justin has played literally hundreds of venues around the world (170 cities in 33 countries and counting) such as Fabric (UK), The End (RIP), Planet K (Manchester), Fuse (Brussels), Rex (Paris), Batofar (Paris), Skanssen (Oslo), Lolita (Barcelona), Robert Johnson (Frankfurt), WMF (Berlin), Panorama Bar (Berlin), Back To Basics (Leeds,UK), Sankeys (Manchester-UK) As well some HUGE DJ sets at the following festivals : Homelands, Love Box, The Glade, Rip Curl Festival ……Well the list literally just goes on…..you get the picture..
Fast Forward to present and the next set of recording projects is already underway Including a new co-production with DJ Red-eye (who featured on the huge ’2cool2dance’ EP on Positiva by John Larner). Red Eye is currently writing vocals for the next Justin Harris EP titled ‘Dusk’. Also currently underway is vol.2 of the next in Justin’s Subway to the Underground series for Pin Up recordings.
As for remixes, Justin has now started on mixes for Baker Street Recordings ( ‘Roots’ by ‘Matt Phren) and Paranoid Records (Lil Mark and Justin’s label). Paranoid has gone from strentgh to strength in the last year and there is a new EP ‘Pattern Recognition’ from Justin (see below), Which is out now with remixes from DJ Swank and Lil Mark.
And with new EP’s scheduled from Lil Mark, Skyrats (Justin Harris and Piers Kirwan) and DJ Swank, Paranoid is gaining speed… watch this space.. Just completed is Justin’s remix es of Ludwig Amadeus- ‘I’ve Been Out’, which includes a full vocal mix and late night dub which is due for release later in the year. As a result of the success of this pairing Ludwig and Justin have agreed to work on a new collaberation this year which should be interesting. Also just signed is a track for Neon Records (Australia) featuring the vocals of Lil Myss Word ( aka Laura Vane) called ‘Ain’t Me It’s You’. Justin is now working with Laura on a follow up.
Another very exciting project taking shape this year is DJ’s North and South (Justin and Nigel Casey from House of 909). Having got back behind the decks last May for the first time in 12 years, They’ve already done two South East Asia tours and played alongside and supported Darren Emerson, Mr C, Will I Am and Underworld to name a few. Another tour is pencilled in for March including Singapore, China, Australia and Miami. North and South are also currently working on an EP to be released in March of this year.

JTC Respect Festival After Party @ The Globe

Ghetto Block Rave!

Phat rave!

The JTC Exeter Respect festival after party at the Globe was a great party. Saturday afternoon saw the sun come out big time and 150 or so Respecters made it into the court yard beer garden for a spot of Fucntion 1 heavy summer bass beats and happy times.

Pharma was on form dishing up some reggae, dnb and general phat beats.

Live dance action and  sweet vocals came in the trio of a new band made from active SW musicians, vocalists, producers and DJ’s. Hihat (Bristol, Swu radio) on keys and samples,  Dicey (Plymouth, Magik Bullet) on lovley vocals and Mr Fish twanged his strings on the bass guitar. Fresh beats ranging from hip hop and funk to dnd topped off with some soul action. Perfect sun downer action.

Environmental health lets it carry on inside with a quick shuffel of bass bins and MTD from DeepEnd dropped some heavy and interesting tunes with a dubstep and garage vibe, plenty of drums to keep the  festival vibe going.

With things warming upto dripping level Redbelly got things moving on. Switching from MTD’s beats to a more driving house pace before dropping down and getting more twisted whilst keeping that summer vibe.  With a packed floor Magnet got on the wheels keeping the darkness busy with proper after party business, rolling drums, wonky noises and warm bass.

A suprise evacuation out of the pub before closing time due to a gas leak and a little fisrt aid effort finished the party with a bang! Well not quite releavingly and JTC head quaters kept rocking till the early morning.

Sunday in the park was a chilled affair with a wicked turn out of about 7000 people enjoying the sun, great tunes and community vibe.

Thanks to every one who came along and donated to a wicked event for Exeters inhabitants.

Fingers crossed for a JTC Stage at next years festival!

CHRIS LIBERATOR
Acid techno trend-setter and figurehead of the UK free-party scene, Liberator’s music is hard hitting and so dirty it’s practically pornographic.
Chris Liberator is a DJ and a producer. Besides his prolific work for Stay Up Forever and Cluster under a range of pseudonyms & collaborations, (including a mass of work with, amongst others, D.A.V.E. The Drummer, Guy McAffer, Lawrie Immersion, Julian and Aaron Liberator, Ant and Darc Marc), he has also recorded under his own name for many other labels including Tec, Prolekult and Smitten.

He regularly plays throughout the UK, Europe and most of the world with the other Liberator DJs. He was one of the first western DJs to work in the former iron curtain states and to pioneer the Acid Techno Sound there!
He has played in more exotic locations such as Australia, Israel, Japan, Brazil and Venezuela and spreads his inimitable DJ style with frequent visits to the USA and Canada.

He Co-owns and runs the Stay Up Forever Label Collective, (with the other Liberators) which includes their Labels Stay Up Forever and Cluster. He has launched his own labels “Maximum Minimum” and “Wah Wah” for Techno, and “Yolk” for Tech-House.

Blurb

Idiotproof

Idiotproof’s genre defining singles on Jesse Rose’s Made to Play label and their remixes of Armand Van Helden, X-Press 2, Cagedbaby, Sam Sparro and the Audio Bullys have delivered shockwaves across the globe.

Idiotproof is the combined force of three notorious international playboys. They have reached into the deepest heart of rave and have emerged from the black strobe light with a chrome plated, low slung, bass driven conception of house music for the twenty-first century.

Everyone from Claude VonStroke to Switch is championing their infectious sound which induces the feeling of sleep deprivation, three days on the lash and the wonky triple vision you get as you fight your way to the bar once again.

When they’re not busy in the studio Idiotproof are DJing throughout the world and their twisted take on house continues to blossom and explode with every stroke.

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Mr Benn

Mr Benn has blasted his way into the hearts, minds and record boxes of the more discerning DJs around the globe. His unmistakable blend of skankin’ reggae grooves married with the chunkiest of hip hop beats makes for dancehall, dance floor chaos whenever his beats are dropped.

The leading light of the infamous Bristol-based Leisure Recordings, Mr Benn has cut some of the freshest and funkiest records to come from, well…anywhere in recent months. His debut 12″ ‘Take It Back’ introduced the new sound of Bristol to the masses and his follow ups ‘The Jump’ with MC Souls Liberation and ‘Trubble’ with ragga don Blackout JA confirmed our man as one of the finest beatsmiths working today.

2008 saw Mr Benn release ‘Long Time’, a fresher than fresh 12″ with UK hip hop legend Blak Twang and Blackout JA that kept his good ship on course and with plenty of wind in its sails. The first release on his very own Square One Sound label, it found favour with the biggest names in alternative beats and bobs with Mr Scruff, DJ Yoda, Sinden, Steinski and Black Grass among those that just couldn’t get enough.

His latest collaborations – including work with The Ragga Twins and Basement Jaxx and Toddla T cohort, MC Serocee – are currently being whipped into shape in the studio and are destined for his debut album, due to drop early 2010.

As well as dropping massive beats for heads and feets, obligatory remix work keeps the fires burning while further showcasing Benn’s diverse production talents and techniques. A recent Horace Andy & Ashley Beedle remix competition run by Strut Records saw Mr Benn beat over 400 other hopefuls to the prize, and his effortlessly effective reworkings of Mark Rae’s Yes King project and Bastard Jazz’s The Magic Fly have garnered some serious praise from a whole host of heavy hitters. Keep your eyes and ears open for more top-drawer remixes – of Terry Lynn, The Leisure Allstars and Loungeclash – all set to drop in the coming months. Add to this his ‘under the counter’ rewirings of pop smashes under the name Mr Blennd on his Rhythm’n’Booze imprint and you have a prolific producer that manages to keep quality his priority while the quantity does not suffer.

Mr Benn’s talent isn’t confined to production work either. His skill as a DJ and selector have seen his inspired mixes broadcast on Ninja Tune’s Solid Steel radio show and led to him gracing the turntables of many a sweaty club. A regular fixture at the best venues in Bristol, you can catch Benn DJing as part of the Bristol Hi-Fi collective alongside Massive Attack’s Daddy G, Queen Bee and MC Souls Liberation. As well as keeping his locals happy, Mr Benn is no stranger to taking in exotic trips to far-flung dance floors. Recent sets in the UK and Europe, and at The Big Chill Festival, Sunday Best’s Bestival, and WOMAD events around the world have ensured the riddims run far and wide for all you party people.

DANCE DANCE DANCE EASTER RAVE UP!

HOUSE | TECHNO | BASS | HOUSE | TECHNO | BASS | HOUSE | TECHNO | BASS | HOUSE | TECHNO | BASS

Celebrate the end of term, have an early Easter rave-up or simply go mental on a Friday night with Dance Dance Dance’s 2nd event of 2010.

Our 1st Birthday was a massive success, the collaboration with the mighty Subheavy soundsystem worked perfectly and a good night was had by all. It was nice to see some new faces out and really getting in to
4/4 house and techno orientated music. That Subheavy sound certainly helps!

Quote of the night “I came tonight to see if I actually liked house music, I can say now that I know I do!” (Thanks Miles).

Big up to Andromeda, Necta, Chex and Damo as well as the DDD lads for providing such excellence behind the decks. Sets from the night were recorded and will be posted up soon – eagerly awaited!

So, continuing with quality in to 2010…

:MARKUTZ: (NONOM/Z-BOP/GET ON IT!)

I first went on the turntables in about 1999 when I mixed House and Old Skool Hardcore. My cousin used to play tapes to me and I built up a collection of lots of old rave tapes – I was instantly hooked. After really getting into these tape packs I wanted to be able to scratch like the hardcore DJ’s. I bought a scratch mixer, some DMC championships VCR’s and the rest is history.

The style that I play now, and have been for quite a few years is Techno. I have always liked it and I used to listen to the likes of Carl Cox fact / fact 2 on cassette, my dads old Acid House and Inner City tapes, deep heat tapes, kaos theory and many more. From this I have built up my own original style where I drop techno, house, electro, disco, and related sounds. I enjoy the more obscure side of the genre, and the Detroit sound. I really appreciate the soul and the realness that goes into this style of electronic music.

I try to incorporate the turntablism element into my techno mixing and I’m fully utilising new technology. My current set up consists of: Serato Scratch Live, 2 x 1210′s, DJM 800, CDJ 400′s, Acer Laptop, Midi keyboard, FL Studio 8 (making tracks and my own intros / fx)

I am part of the NONOM crew (www.nonom.co.uk) and we are a crew of DJ’s and producers linked with the sister label Z-Bop (www.z-bop.co.uk). We have links to like minded artists worldwide, and the group has a good history behind it. We hold a weekly radio show on Tuesdays 6-8pm GMT on SWU (www.southwestunderground.net) and a twice monthly show on PHONIC FM (106.8) EXETER (www.phonic.fm). Check out the site!

Supported – Jerome Hill, Clatterbox, Lukes Anger, Mustard Gunn, LA Synthesis, Baobinga, Kanji Kinetic, A-Skills, 30Hz, The Disablists, Far Too Loud….

We’ve been eagerly awaiting the chance to have him come and play for us, without doubt one of the West-countries finest DJ talents.

:EDGY & HASSELHOF: (BITSTREAM/KITCHEN SINK)

Both Hasselhof and Edgy started mixing at the beginning of the millenium, at the time playing trance and hardhouse but they soon began exploring other avenues. Hasselhof joined Claires nightclub in Torquay around 2006, warming up with tough electro and tech house for around a year and a half, leaving to pursue his own locally based night Spank. Meanwhile Edgy was pursuing his own path musically, moving on to harder techno styles and breakbeat, playing at beach parties and house parties with regular slots at the Town House and Koko Lounge. Edgy then hooked up with a residency at “The Lost Weekend” with old school experts Gavin Titley and Mr Laureston – Torquays original breaks pioneer. From this meeting the TBF (Torquay Breaks Foundation) was formed and went on to put on some properly awesome summer boat parties. Mr Laureston left the lost weekend leaving a hole at the venue Plan B to fill – and so BITSTREAM was born.

Having both always loved techno but having nowhere to play it, Edgy and Hasselhof have been striving to bring new sounds and fresh local talent to Torquay and their style has been described simply as deep,
funky, minimal house and techno. They also co-run a new night called the Kitchen Sink catering for dirtier music such as fidget and breaks.

:AUDIOSLUT: (DDD/WONKEYLEGS)

Another co-founder of DDD, Audioslut has been playing in and around the South West for the past 5 years – primarily setting out as a drum n bass / jungle DJ in 2002 playing a number of bars and clubs, supporting the likes of EZ rollers, Goldie, The Jungle Drummer and DJ Fu. This grounding set him in good stead to become the promoter of a long running weekly club night in Plymouth, Wonkeylegs, where he held a weekly residency, playing themed parties and supporting acts such as the Freestyler’s Matt Cantor.

University life gave Audioslut the chance to really experiment with different genres and also the opportunities to play at many different venues to diverse crowds, from student union club nights to all night
house parties.

Last year saw Audioslut deliver the goods on a much larger scale, from playing boat parties and club nights with the DDD Collective to playing 10,000 capacity Sellout festivals such as the UK’s Student Festival Beach Break Live and premier UK club night MICRON in London’s infamous Shoreditch.

This year promises to be another big one, after taking six months out to travel and snowboard in Canada, his tastes in music have been further refined!

Expect to hear house music from right across the board, anything from jackin and rolling tech-house, to dubbed out and driving techno.

:KRAFTY SOUNDS: (DDD/JAMTHECHANNEL)

The Dance Dance Dance resident and part founder had a busy 2009, playing gigs alongside the likes of Darren Emerson, Trevor Rockliffe and James Talk with JamtheChannel and Flawless, a set at The Den (formerly the End) in London and plays at Beach Break Live, Spring Dance and Aeon Festivals. Having paired up with Fynndalux to form FYNNK, and with a few big gigs in the pipeline – 2010 looks to be an
exciting one for Krafty.

“Tech House – I play Techno, I play House, and I mix them together a lot. Sometimes deep and minimal, sometimes jacking and funky. Always Krafty…”

MJ Cole @ Aeon 2010

JamTheChannel are very pleased to announce that MJ Cole will be our Saturday night headliner for Aeon 2010. We will be bringing him to Devon for the very first time, This man is a true underground hero who has been at the forefront of the electronic music scene for over 15 years!

mj cole

Biography

After a classical training at The Royal College of Music, MJ Cole’s career began with a job as tape op with drum’n’bass label SOUR. After slogging his way up to the position of engineer, he fell in love with the UK garage sound in the middle of 1996 while working on Ramsey & Fen’s Garage remixes for Kym Mazelle.

After an intense bidding war, Cole’s first solo manoeuvre, the classic ‘Sincere’ finally found root with AM:PM and became one of the first garage records to crack the UK’s Top 40. Two years after the singles success he signed to Gilles Peterson’s label Talkin’ Loud and released ‘Sincere’ the album. This earned him significant notoriety spawning two Top 15 singles, a prestigious Mercury Music Prize nomination, MOBO’s best producer award and a silver disc for UK sales in excess of 60,000 copies. That album also established MJ Cole internationally as an in demand DJ and remixer. He has remixed everyone from Jill Scott and Mariah Carey to De La Soul and Amy Winehouse.

Whilst his work from the Talking Loud era is more familiar to most, MJ Cole’s in demand more as a DJ now than ever before, appearing regularly at Dubstep, Garage, House, Funky and Bassline parties.

Last year saw MJ Cole rocking the likes of Glastonbury and The Big Chill as well as countless club dates all over the world. The records he’s making and playing are reflective of this variety of current influences, representing both where he’s come from and where that fits with new underground music and that shows with his forthcoming dates at the almighty Bloc Weekend & Groove Armada’s Love Box Festival. Having recently remixed Toddla T, Todd Edwards & Serocee, and with a stream of new dance-floor singles including a collaboration with Zed Bias on his own Prolific label , 2010 looks to be an exciting year for MJ Cole and for his label, Prolific Recordings.

SWU Christmas Bash

Bit late on posting this one but here is the lowdown from SWU HQ (catch us in Room 3):

“Were back again this year for the annual SWU christmas party, at another obscure yet potentially brilliant venue, The Hole In The Wall, smack bang in the city centre of Exeter ! The venues under new management and they have converted the basement into a new club with that boasts around 250 capacity. This promise’s to be a great venue for underground music in the future (Logan D’s playing at some point soon among many more artists on the cards)

Were taking on the entire building for this one, not just the basement! all 3 floors, and all rooms, everythings being moved out so we can bring in big sound, decor and loads of people to bring the rave in traditional SWU style.

Anyone who made it out last year to Laboca (a Moroccan restaurant !) will know what to expect , we took over the entire building with 4 rooms of sound, and crammed 700 people in, the event sold out and it was a wicked night!

Same deal again this year, 4 rooms of sound, loads of SWU DJs representing at the credit crunching price of just £4 advanced ticket from SWU, £5 from Reform and £6 on the door.
