Krafty Sounds

Krafty Sounds

How long have you been DJing?

8 Years

How did you start DJing?

Started raving at 17, going to hard house parties at the Burston. Bought myself a set of decks a year later – my first ever HP purchase! Learned from my best mate at the time, Russell.

What type of music can we expect to you play?

Tech House – I play Techno, I play House, and I mix them together a lot.
Sometimes deep and minimal, sometimes jacking and funky. Always Krafty…
Techy beats and house grooves!

How did you get into this type of music?

Started on hard house, then Saw Dave Clarke at Bugged Out once, decided I wanted to mix techno – tried it, couldn’t – moved to Germany and was introduced to a Dutch DJ called Carlyn – came back to England and tried to find similar sounds to her without success – got handed some house tunes and couldn’t believe the variety and enjoyment I found in mixing it. Always liked the jacking Chicago and British deep house sounds before finding a couple of Chris Duckenfield tunes and discovering basslines! Then caught the minimal bug and eventually found my way back to techno.

What has been your most embarrassing DJing moment?

Lifting the wrong needle off the deck 2 mixes in to my first Zero gig.

What has been your best DJing moment?

Has to be playing one of the finishing sets of Aeon Festival in 2008, in my home town in front of an up for it capacity crowd and hearing people I didn’t even know shouting out my name!

Best set I’ve ever played though was probably at Synchronicty the December before.

Who is your favourite artist?

Hard to say, I’ve bought more tunes by Daniel Steinberg than anyone else – does that count?

What is you all time favourite album?

Tied between Dave Clarke’s World Service 1 (Techno mix), and Hawtin’s DE9 – Closer to the Edit.

Where do you shop for music?

Online at Juno, in store at Reform (Exeter) and Bigga (Plymouth).
