how long have you been djing?
I have been DJing for just over 10 years.
how did you start djing?
I suppose it was just a progression from partying and seeing some amazing DJ’s live, I wanted to understand how they did it so well and that led me to buy my first set of belt drive decks with a cheap and nasty mixer to give it a go !
what type of music can we expect to you play?
I mainly play deep & minimal house, but i also have a huge love for techno and I still try to incorporate that in my sets. I have always been a fan of the more stripped back element that house has to offer, I’m not one for huge breakdowns or quirky bass lines.. just a straight up solid groove
how did you get into this type of music?
My brother had a big influence on me listening to dance music when I was younger, when we were growing up he introduced me to more mainstream albums such as Ministry of Sound’s The Annual and the JDJ mix series, it made me want to explore more of what electronic dance music had to offer and i started listening to Sasha, John Digweed and Billy Nasty mixes. I then started to go out partying at clubs in and around the South West and realised that there was a lot more out there than the usual main stream music your average kid listens to.
what has been your most embarrassing djing moment?
Has to be when i was playing in Preston with the 4Play DJ’s and I was using Traktor for the first time⦠i got a little confused buy the setup and just stopped the deck that was playing.. not my finest moment.
what has been your best djing moment?
One will always be my first appearance at the Aeon Festival in 2008.. i had been given a later slot and the tent was rammed, a great feeling for playing your first festival. Others i have been grateful to have been given the opportunity to play at such events as Just Jack and Switch in Bristol.. both i have looked on as a huge inspiration to the music i listen to and play as a DJ.
who is your favourite artist?
Some of the artists that really pushing some amazing work right now are Guti, Seth Troxler, Till Von Sein, The Runners, Maya Jane Coles, Art Department, Jamie Jones, Dyed Soundorom, Jef K, Subb-an and my good friend Rowlanz.
what is you all time favourite album?
My favourite would have to be Daft Punk – Homework.. You could listen to it at any point in the next 10 years and it will still sound as fresh as the day they released it back in 1997, a timeless album that has paved the way for many artists over the years. Another would be Steve Lawler – Viva London, it was the main reason i started to look further in to playing minimal house, really intelligent soulful music that you cant help but get lost in
where do you shop for music?
I mainly use Beatport, What People Play and Juno.. although i try and gather promo material from friends, always good to get exposure for the artists that you know.
