How did you start DJing?
I had some nasty old belt drives when I was 16 and me and my mates used to try and mix jungle with techno, we didn’t have a clue and the decks were quickly flogged. More recently a VERY well respected south west Dj moved in with me and his tunes and decks were in the house, I was an unemployed student bum so nature took its course, I’m still at the bottom of a very long learning curve but things are falling into place and every mix/gig/radio show helps you hone your skills.
What type of music can we expect to you play?
Two years ago I was very set in my ways and was really headstrong about the minimal tech sound, but know anything is fair game. I think it’s an uber exciting time for house music with deep/tech/UKfunky/disco/vocal stuff being made by some sick imerging talent and old heads to boot. I’m really lucky to be in different collaborations with other DJ’s and thats really inspiring to, as well as going out as many nights as possible, locally, nationally or abroad. World Bleep is the new genre we coined the other day, I love a good bongo percussion or ‘call to prayer’ sample, as long as it’s simple and bassline driven!
How did you get into this type of music?
Ive been going to clubs since I was about 15 and caught the tail end of the original rave seen. One week we would be at Volts in Exeter listening to handbag house and the next week stomping in the middle of 10 000 nutters at Dance Planet or Obsession, good times. I have at some point been into every type of electronic dance music but its always ultimately been about 4×4 and always will be. The dancefloor is the most important place, everything comes back to that really for me, and hopefully this helps make a better DJ.
What has been your most embarrassing DJing moment?
Apart from the usual fuck ups its gotta be filling the dance floor with, how shall I put this, men. Not a women in sight, just lots of muscles and shaved heads!
What has been your best DJing moment?
Playing at AEON was a total honour bearing in mind who played after me (Solo, Julio Bashmore, Rektchordz) dropping Maetrik ‘Sex With Bass’ at midnight on NYE @ JTC .v. DE and the floor going mental was up there. Playing before the amazing J.Phlip on our last legendary boat party was super fun to. Ultimately I think the support and enthusiasm of my friends, and simply being given the opportunity to play is awesome, big up JTC
Who is your favourite artist?
Always a tough one, I reakon it probably changes from day to day but currently Radiohead, Maetrik, Maceo Plex, Jamie Jones, Julio Bashmore, CVS, Martin brothers, Daniel Steinberg, Joy Orbison, Ramadanman, Camel, Bump (JTC).
What is you all time favourite album?
Radiohead ‘In Rainbows’
Where do you shop for music?
Juno, Beatport, Stompy, whatevers left on my mac after a gig ha ha
